A lot of people do that today. In recent years, it seems to be getting worse. When giving a bible teaching, sharing a principle of a specific topic, or stating what it teaches and it’s truths-and allowing the scriptures to speak for themselves. It’s becoming more difficult, because so few believe the bible is the truth, don’t live by it themselves, and see no reason why anybody should-although the condition of the world today ought to be very clear evidence to anyone who has eyes to see, and any common sense.
These days, if I speak on a topic such as what the bible teaches about what a godly woman/man should look like, what their conduct should appear like, and how we could distinguish the difference between the godly and the ungodly-you will very shortly find yourself in the midst of a wide range of opinions and see a quick rise in hostility in the atmosphere; because today there are no “line in the sand” convictions, or standards that people live by, or even know about. Sin, isn’t sin anymore, it’s whatever code of ethics or morals you’ve decided to live by, and if no else does, that’s ok too. Whatever is right for you- that’s great. However, neither God-nor the devil believe this, and the results of the destruction of people's “whatever goes” lifestyles is proof of this fact. I may not believe that drugs can kill me, but if I overdose-and kill myself, the truth has won out-at my expense.
Let’s talk about the principles of godliness in men and women, making a few simple examples. II Timothy ch. two gives instruction to the soldier of Jesus Christ, this sums up the conduct of what a godly man/woman should strive for, and within this chapter cross referencing can be done that would take weeks to go through-and if you did, you’d come away having a solid foundation of what pleases God, and what doesn’t. But when you do, be prepared to start seeing the world through different eyes, and the more you study scripture, and apply it to your life-the less you’ll find you fit in with this world.
A Good Soldier of Christ Jesus
2Ti 2:1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2Ti 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
2Ti 2:3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
2Ti 2:4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
2Ti 2:5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
2Ti 2:6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
2Ti 2:7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
2Ti 2:8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
2Ti 2:9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
2Ti 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
2Ti 2:11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
2Ti 2:12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
2Ti 2:13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
A Worker Approved by God
2Ti 2:14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2Ti 2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
2Ti 2:17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
2Ti 2:18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
2Ti 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
2Ti 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
2Ti 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
2Ti 2:23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
2Ti 2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
2Ti 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
2Ti 2:26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
Now, I’ll make a few short statements to men and women both, and call this enough:
To the women- If you consider yourself saved, and walking with the Lord, but still adorn yourself with skin tight pants and low cut blouses that show your cleavage in public for the world to see, you are broadcasting sexuality and lust to every man who walks by you. If he looks at you with lust, you’ve enticed him to sin-you are accountable for it, and one day will be judged for it, if you don’t repent. There’s a lot of women who call themselves Christian who laugh at this-and never read their bibles-they don’t want to hear what God wants of them, because they don’t care, they just want what they want. It’s a spirit of rebellion, and is evidenced in their manner of dress and their conduct. The bible has a lot to say about women’s mouths also-which many in the church would do well to spend time reading and praying about-if they are really interested in being a godly woman-as He defines it. One of the very first things God started dealing with me when I first was saved in 1978, was how he wanted me to change the way I dressed, who I spent time with, how I conducted myself, the motives of my heart. He's still doing so today.
I’ll interject here; as I describe the various problems of the unsaved and those who claim to know the Lord, can you read this, pick up your bible and read the verses of scripture that describe what a godly man/woman should look like-and evaluate it objectively? Or, do you do what so many do today-become offended, lift up your nose, jut out your chin, fly into a rage; and accuse me of pointing my finger at you? If you do, my response is this:
If you aren’t doing the things described here, and the shoe doesn’t fit your life- don’t try to put it on. Be mature and adult enough to read this objectively; be able to look around you and see the truth that these problems are going on in this world/and it’s the reason the world is in the mess it’s in. We have rejected God and his word, and we are paying the prices for it. When judgment comes, we won’t have anybody to blame, but ourselves. In our own sphere of influence-if we judge ourselves by the word of God, we won’t be judged. Think about it.
To the men- The greatest obstacle to many of them is pride, arrogance and driving ambition. Satan was thrown out of heaven for the sin of pride, and he has held untold millions of men in the bondage of pride and taken them to hell; where they scream in torment, wishing they could get out; as Jesus describes in the story of the rich man and Lazarus. Man’s problem is-they want to be their own god, and will go to any lengths to make sure no one but him is that god in his life. When I took care of old people, most men would completely turn off anybody who tried to talk to them about their soul, and where they were going to go when they died. They had made their own kingdoms here on earth-and deceived themselves into believing they’d never die. Many men I watched, as each day they’d become more feeble, less able to care for themselves, but still not willing to let anybody speak to them about their eternal destination. I watched them finally die in their sins-knowing they are now in hell. I’ve seen the difference of those who have lived a life of faith, and looked forward to meeting the Lord, and their loved ones in heaven, and the peace that was present with them when the Lord took them, the difference was profound. Along with these obstacles is the wall they build within themselves, and compartments they make in their souls, to hide their sins. No one can unlock the doors to these compartments, unless the Holy Spirit is finally able to reach them, and convict them of their need to repent, and admit to themselves-and most importantly to Christ, that they need a Savior, and can’t save themselves. They may come to the place that no amount of booze, drugs, or women can satisfy the empty hole in their hearts, and they finally see their need for the love of God/and to know his forgiveness. If they do, this is the greatest miracle that God can perform for any soul-that they truly, from their heart, repent and surrender their life to Jesus. If you are in this empty place, be you man or woman-I pray that you will come to that place, and be “born again”.
There is nothing more important in this life, or the next. Our eternity hinges on what we have done with Jesus Christ, in this life. I pray any who read this will know the truth of this, and make that decision. Jesus said he’s gone to prepare a place for all who come to Him, there’s a place prepared there for you-you can take him at his word.
