Many doctor’s studies have shown that there are key issues we can address that can greatly decrease our level of stress in our lives; which is a major cause of so many chronic illnesses today.
They are:
1. Tell the truth- Just imagine if you will, the amount of stressful situations you can avoid by just telling the truth. Your emotions, fear of being found out, anger, all build up as stress, which affects every area of the body, as well as the heart. Living a life of honesty eliminates much that can cause these problems. One lie leads to another, to cover the first one. We become blind to the hurt we cause ourselves, and others, and worst of all; we don’t care. Then slander is used to justify ourselves, and destroy someone’s character; which in God’s eyes is murder. David went so far with his lies concerning his adulterous relationship with Bathsheba, that he didn’t just slander, he did commit murder, by having her husband killed.
2. Be authentic- The benefits to this kind of lifestyle are great; peace of mind being one of the greatest. Being honest in character in our everyday living brings strength to the inner man, and an unshakable calm, even in the midst of a crisis in our lives.
3. If you are in grief, allow the sorrow and tears to come- Allowing ourselves to grieve, and cry when sorrows overflow brings release, and healing will begin. Suppressing grief can cause depression, and despondency.
Kind David establishes many of these doctor’s findings in psalm 51, and his cries for God’s forgiveness and restoration is a beneficial pattern for us to follow:
