Pr 15:33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
Here we see in this verse the evidence of the fear of the Lord in one’s life; humility and honor.
What is the value of the fear of the Lord? What are it’s attributes? Let’s take a look at what scripture tells us.
Why humility is so important:
It is necessary to the service of God (Micah 6:8)
Christ is an example of humility (Matt 11:29, John 13:14,15, Phil. 2: 5-8)
It is a necessary characteristic of saints (Ps 34:2)
Those who exhibit true humility in their lives:
Are regarded by God (Ps 138:6; Is 66:2)
Are heard by God Ps (9:12, Isa 10:17)
Enjoy the presence of God (Isa 57:15)
Are delivered by God (Job 22:29)
Are lifted up by God (James 4:10)
Are exalted by God (Luke 14:11, 18:14)
Are the greatest in Christ’s Kingdom (Matt 18:4, 20:26-28
Receive more grace (Prov 3:34, James 4:6)
Are upheld by honour (Prov 18:12; 29:23)
Scripture teaches humility is before honor (Prov 15:33)
God’s saints are told to:
Put on humility (Co 3:12)
Be clothed with (1Peter 5:5)
Walk in (Eph 4:1,2)
And beware of false humility (Col 2:18, 23)

Humiliation of soul always brings a positive blessing with it. If we empty our hearts of self God will fill them with His love. He who desires close communion with Christ should remember the word of the Lord, "To this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at My word." Stoop if you would climb to heaven. Do we not say of Jesus, "He descended that He might ascend"? so must you. You must grow downwards, that you may grow upwards; for the sweetest fellowship with heaven is to be had by humble souls, and by them alone. God will deny no blessing to a thoroughly humbled spirit. "Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven," with all its riches and treasures.
